Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs): implication to national development in Nigeria

This paper aims at examining the implication of the rising incidence and number of lnternally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to national development in Nigeria. National data were obtained from Sabo Kuchigoro and Children home Karewa IDPs camps located in Abuja and Adamawa states respectively in Nigeria. Descriptive analysis was carried out to assess the impact IDPs have on national development. Document review on the management of IDP's in Nigeria were obtained from the National Emergency Management Agency and the various States Emergency Management Agencies (SEMA). The paper posited that the rising incidences of IDPs as a result of Boko-Haram, Political upheavals and Indigene/settler crisis is a menace to national development. It is therefore recommended that proactive policy should be formulated to help in ameliorating the plight facing by the IDPs and the colossus waste caused to the Nigeria Economy.
