Factors influencing the unmet need for family planning in Uganda

THE UNMET NEED FOR FAMILY PLANNING- UGANDA CASE Uganda has the youngest population in the world with 77% being under 30 years of age. It has the 9th highest population growth rate in the world of 3.24. Fertility rate remains high with an average of 6.7 birth per woman and experts’ fear that the population if not controlled is going to explode and strain the limited resources. Family planning use still remains low. Unmet need stands at 34.3%. The purpose of the study was to examine the factors affecting unmet need for family planning among Ugandan women. Data from the 2011 Uganda Demographic and Health Survey was analyzed. The analysis was descriptive and bi-variate. Study findings indicate that a number of factors within the environment in which women live contribute greatly towards the degree on their unmet meet. Key word: Unmet need for family planning
