TOPIC- Type of Employment and Fertility in Nigeria ABSTRACT Nigeria is the largest country in sub-Saharan Africa with a Total Fertility Rate of 5.6 children per woman. The issue of rapid population growth in Nigeria is of great concern given its effects on infrastructures, resources and job due to the changing needs of its people. This study used data from the 2013 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey to examine the relationship between type of employment and fertility in Nigeria. A negative binomial regression model was used to test the relationship between the numbers of children ever born and the type of employment of women in Nigeria. The results revealed that women in formal or salaried job have fewer children compared to women in informal sector. The policy implications of this study may include encouraging more participation of women in formal jobs. KEYWORDS fertility, employment type, women, birth rate, TFR, Nigeria
