Urbanization in Africa is a mega trend with complex demographic dynamics, underlying urban growth, migration, the economy, social aspects and geographical boundaries. In Ethiopia, rapid urban growth has had positive and negative implications for socio-economic and environmental development. Beyond the demographics, Ethiopia's urbanization process presents an invaluable opportunity for national growth and transformation in line with the country's and Africa vision. This paper will therefore analyze patterns, trends and consequences of urbanization in Ethiopia and its implications for growth and transformation. Understanding the interrelation of such issues is essential in maintaining Ethiopia's overall recent growth and improving the overall quality of life and, can aid in the formulation, reformulation and implementation of appropriate policies, plans, programmes and strategies.
